Purpose of Position:

This position will provide clinical and preventive health services in local health offices and outreach settings. Services may include, acquiring medical and social history, assessing clients, providing physical exams, laboratory testing, providing diagnosis and treatment, making referrals, creating a plan of care and providing case management to clients in both English and Spanish. Preference will be given to Bi-Lingual applicants fluent in English and Spanish.

This position is a Pay Band 90.


Classification Description

Certified Nurse Practitioner

Minimum Qualifications

Master's Degree in a defined certified nursing specialty such as pharmacology, physical assessment, diagnosis, nurse practitioner skills, and advanced nursing physiology and pathophysiology.

Employment Requirements:

Must possess and maintain Current License as Certified Nurse Practitioner in New Mexico. Successful completion of a formal program designed for Education and Preparation of Nurse Practitioners. Nurse Practitioners, who were initially licensed by the Board prior to January 1, 2001 with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from a Nurse Practitioner Program and are currently Licensed are encouraged to apply. Successful completion of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability ACT (HIPAA) course. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certification from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.

Statutory Requirements:

Must be a Certified Nurse Practitioner in accordance with NMSA 1978, 61-3-23.2 or Certified Nurse Midwife Rule in accordance with NMAC 16.11.2 or Clinical Nurse Specialist in accordance with NMSA 1978, 61-3-23.4.

Working Conditions:

This position will provide services in local health offices and outreach settings throughout the Southwest Region with a focus in Las Cruces. Services are provided in a clinic, auxiliary and community sites, and occasionally in the client's home with potential exposure to communicable diseases with computer usage for a variety of clinic and office functions. Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage with extended periods of office noise, bending, standing and lifting. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Services are provided in a clinic with diverse racial and ethnic population, many who do not speak the English language. May be required to work evening and/or weekend hours at various Public Health Offices.
